Also, over spring break, students are going to organize a time when they can pick up trash on the side of the road or at a local area. There was another option for the hour requirements in helping pick up after the Sadies Dance on March 14. Posters for the Talent Show need to be made and put up before we leave for spring break. All entries need to be cleared through both sponsors before they will be allowed in the show. More updates to come as we receive them!
PIPs Meeting 01/12/09
January 12, 2009Meeting Agenda: T-Shirt order, Breast Cancer Fundraising ideas, Information about the Blog and Newspaper articles, a Current Treasury update, and Plans and Events for January.
At the meeting today, we decided to try the idea of a lip-synching contest and a Breast Cancer Walk through Oakwood to raise money for Breast Cancer Research. We also discussed tutoring at the Elementary School and will follow up with all of these ideas at our next meeting, to be held after school on Monday, January 26, 2009, in Room 13.
Macy’s Donation and Christmas Cards
December 24, 2008On Monday, December 22, the PIPS president, vp, treasurer and one member delivered Christmas cards to the Colonial Manor Retirement Home. It went off without a hitch – unless you count their inability to open the front door… All in all it went very well! We made lives a little brighter in the Retirement Home that day, and that’s what the season is all about.
Speaking of giving, on Tuesday, December 23, the PIPS president, vp, and one member delivered 510 letters to Santa to Macy’s Department Store. For each letter given, Macy’s donated $1.00 to the local Make A Wish Foundation. The News-Gazette was there taking pictures; so be sure to keep an eye in the paper for the article! And special thanks to Mike Howie (an Oakwood grad himself) for making it possible under such short notice for the event to be placed in the newspaper.
As the season closes quickly upon us, I want to take a chance to share with all the PIPS members how proud of you I am and how much I enjoy sponsoring you. Giving back to the community is something that takes a lot of heart – and you guys are teeming with it! Merry Christmas to all of you. Be safe and have a great holiday!

The next meeting will be Monday, November 24, 2008 from 3 until finished in Room 13 at OHS.
We talked about various volunteer opportunities for us to participate in this year, including, but not limited to:

We agreed that every student needs to earn at least 15 hours of community service per semester in this first year. This amount will increase as time goes on and 15 hours is not expected for the first semester of this year.
Ideas for fundraising discussed included selling candy canes at OHS, doing a homeroom coin donation competition, working the concession stands during wrestling meets, and gift wrapping presents at Borders. With permission, we will start acting on these ideas at the next meeting.
The results of our first vote are in, and the Board Members for the 2008-2009 school year are as follows:
President – Kayla Corzine
Vice-President – Jessica Spencer
